About Us
Who we are
Universität Hamburg's Center for a Sustainable University, or Kompetenzzentrum Nachhaltige Universität (KNU), was founded in 2011. It supports Universität Hamburg as it becomes a University for a Sustainable Future. It helps ensure that strategic and administrative activities in research, education, and governance are feasible.
The KNU is an internal sustainability forum for students, faculty, and administrative staff. Five interdisciplinary KNU teams develop concepts and project proposals for sustainability at Universität Hamburg. We also welcome external suggestions for research and support external research proposals with various types of grants and funding.
What we do
The Center for a Sustainable University supports Universität Hamburg on its path towards becoming a University for a Sustainable Future. We are an interdisciplinary center dedicated to fostering sustainability in research, education, and governance.
We conceive measures for sustainable development, guide the University's sustainable transformation, initiate and promote sustainable development projects, strengthen internal and external sustainability networks, and serve as a think tank and laboratory.
