SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 7 seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Energy is the basis for development and combating poverty. At the same time, the type and method of energy generation and consumption have an important influence on the environment.

What are your research areas? What research projects are you currently working on? How do these relate to “your” SDG?
I am conducting research in the fields of corporate sustainability, ecology-oriented business management, and a sustainable financial market. Energy issues and climate change are important topics that are of key relevance in all areas. Some examples of our research include the correlation between CO2 emissions and financial performance of global corporations, or how to introduce an energy management system in a mid-sized company in Hamburg.
How and why did you become interested in this topic?
After finishing my university studies, I worked at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. This definitely strengthened my interest in and connection to this topic. I continued to work on this topic during my subsequent academic training at ETH Zurich.
What activities are you planning as part of the SDG sponsorship? What possibilities do you see in (interdisciplinary) networking with other members of your sponsorship team?
SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) addresses one of the most urgent issues currently facing the global community: how can we create a clean, low-carbon (or zero-carbon) energy system? The objective must be to ensure the establishment of such a system worldwide. All of us, including Universität Hamburg, must do our own small part to make this happen. Our first activity in this context was to create a WISO Energy Team within the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences.
Does your topic also relate to any of the 16 other SDGs?
Energy is needed for nearly all activities and areas of daily life, so there are many interconnections to nearly all other SDGs.
